Welcome to Mack's Creek Basset Hounds!
We are a reputable basset hound breeder located near the Lake Of The Ozarks, Missouri. We have full european, and American bassets! AKC and CKC registered. We breed a few litters a year, our bassets are very loved and taken care of! We breed to improve the breed physically and genetically, while producing the best family members. We are committed to producing quality basset hounds for loving homes! All of our bassets and basset puppies are exposed to farm animals, along with our three little kids, and are very well socialized!
When we select which males to pair with each female we make sure they complement each other's weaker qualities if either Basset has any. We often use outside studs in our program to add some variety and different lineage. Our bassets are throughly evaluated physically, and bred to produce better quality bassets each breeding! There are a lot of bassets with overly crooked legs, bad backs, and other bad physical qualities that can easily be avoided if those dogs aren't bred, and the ones that are bred have very little, if any weak qualities physically!
Growing up my parents used to breed great pyrenees, and we had just about every type of farm animal you can think of! I milked goats and cows every day for a large portion of my childhood into being a teenager, we used goats milk to feed to the puppies! Along with fresh chicken eggs. I'd learned a lot about animals growing up, helping goats, cows and our livestock guardian dogs have babies, I grew a passion to help them! I was always the "veterinarian" of my family, helping any animal I could help growing up. We never had a basset hound growing up, though I always wanted one! Once I became an adult, I got my very first basset hound and fell in love with the breed! We now own 6 Basset Hounds and each are very loved! I know each dog just by their bark, now known as the crazy dog lady!

Health, and genetic health testing!
Our Basset Hound adults are all up to date on vaccines, and deworming. We do our vaccines annually and deworm every two months, all of our dogs are brucellosis NEGATIVE! and we never bring other dogs into our pack without brucellosis testing first. Our bassets are happy and healthy and are each VERY loved!!
Health testing.
We health test through pawprint genetics, and OFA. We health test for (Lafora Disease) (Primary Open Angle Glaucoma) (Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Disease) (Thrombopathia) and will be doing MPS1 in the upcoming months. Our bassets are bred where their puppies WILL NOT be effected by any of these genetic diseases! It's very important to pair bassets with the proper mate when breeding to improve the breed physically as well as genetically to produce the healthiest, happiest dogs!
Adoption Process/puppy care.
To get one of our puppies we do a $100 deposit that is deducted from puppies total cost to hold your puppy of choice until they're ready to go at 8 weeks old, we don't take deposits until puppies are born! And the remaining balance isn't due until pickup, or two business days before transportation if puppy isn't being picked up in person. We have ground transportation options if needed. Our puppies all leave with AKC or CKC paperwork, and a health check from our licensed veterinarian. They recieve two rounds of shots, and dewormed at 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks old before leaving our care. Each puppy has a one year genetic health guarantee on a contract that states what we do and don't cover! Puppy pricing depends on the parents/litter. Our American/lower european litters are around $900, the more european and champion bloodlines can be up to $2500.
Our puppies are very well socialized, each puppy is handled daily from day one! We expose them to different noises and animals. It's important to us to produce outgoing pups and make sure they're well socialized, proper socialization the first 8 weeks of life can be the difference between having a skittish, scared puppy/adult or an outgoing, happy puppy/adult! Basset Hounds are great dogs, most are naturally friendly towards people and other dogs, it's important to breed bassets that also have friendly and outgoing temperaments, a shy, skittish or aggressive dog can easily pass those qualities onto their puppies even if the puppies are well socialized themselves.
Important things to note when bringing a new basset puppy into your home! Bassets have long bodies therefore it's easier for them to get back injures than the average dog if they're not handled properly especially as puppies! Be careful not to drop your puppy or let them jump off of very high furniture ect. It's also important to supervise when playing with larger dogs! Another thing we really push when bringing any puppy into your home is to always avoid taking your puppy out in any public places or areas non vaccinated dogs may have been to help prevent parvovirus and other viruses/diseases. It might be hard not to take your adorable new puppy out and about to show them off, but it's VERY important to keep them out of the public, puppies safety is priority and waiting until all shots are complete can save a lot of heartache and the puppies life! We also recommend slow feeders for puppies to keep them from eating to quickly and keeping play to a minimum for at least an hour after meals to prevent gastric torsion. We have never had a basset get bloat, but the breed is supposedly more prone to it so it's better safe than sorry!
